A person’s life cycle begins at birth. On our journey through life, we go through different phases that need to be mastered. Each small or large stage of life represents a milestone and determines the further course of our lives. It is these decisions that make us who we are at the end of our earthly life.
Just as we celebrate the annual festivals of nature, we also celebrate the most important stages of life.
Traditionally, every life cycle begins with a naming ceremony. The child is given a name that will accompany them for the rest of their life. The parents give their child positive qualities and good wishes for life. And the godparents pledge their support and protection for all time.
This is followed by the Youth initiation on the 7th birthday and the Youth consecrations on the 14th birthday. The next important stage of life is the coming of age, which, according to pagan tradition, begins at the age of 21. This is when the adolescent becomes an adult who must make his or her own decisions. And so the wheel of life continues to turn inexorably towards engagement, marriage, silver wedding, golden wedding and even death.
We may also have to reverse a decision at some point in our lives. We consciously let go of this old decision, cut an old tie and embark on a new path in life. We separate ourselves from these old burdens and now move on towards the future without ballast.
