5 September 2026 – A pagan wedding in East Frisia

Passing green meadows, long canals and the vast East Frisian countryside, we draw ever closer to today’s destination. Not far from the North Sea coast, we reach the small village of Wirdum, where Franziska and Melvin’s wedding celebrations are taking place.

A few days ago, the couple exchanged vows at the registry office and are already husband and wife in the eyes of the law. However, it is their heartfelt wish to reaffirm their bond before the ancient gods and to seal it with a traditional pagan wedding ceremony.

In the afternoon, the guests gather for the start of the ceremony. Amidst a brisk North Sea breeze and the call of wild geese, the solemn wedding ceremony begins. With dignity, the bride’s father, Uwe, leads his daughter down the torch-lit aisle. Here, Melvin is already waiting eagerly for his beloved. His gaze is full of anticipation as Franziska steps towards him.
Our beaming bride and groom walk through the wedding arch together with their two daughters. The enchanting flower girls gently scatter petals at their parents’ feet, creating a colourful path filled with love.

Accompanied by the romantic strains of a harp, Franziska and Melvin pledge eternal companionship and everlasting fidelity to one another. They voluntarily sever all previous ties and thereby embark on the path to a life together. The witnesses immediately affirm the firm resolve of our bride and groom. All those present recognise that this union is not concluded solely between the lovers. At the same time, two families are united here to form a new clan, which is supported and confirmed by the community with a resounding ‘So be it!’.
Once the ceremony is over, the bride and groom are cheered and showered with millet to wish them happiness and prosperity for their future together.

The newlyweds celebrate joyfully with their newly formed family clan. Our herbalists Eva, Tini and Inga chat about all sorts of magical little plants from their local gardens. Above all, the secrets behind the elixirs for beauty and love create a cheerful atmosphere amongst the guests.

The dance floor quickly fills as medieval melodies ring out. Time flies by to the Holsteiner Dreitour, the Chapelloise or the Russian Troika.

As the last rays of the sun fade, the glow of the mystical torchlight dance illuminates the dark evening sky. Friends, family and companions form a final torchlight guard of honour for Franziska and Melvin. Hand in hand, the couple walk through the guard of honour to the sound of three cheers of ‘Hurrah! Hurrah! Hurrah!’

For eheleite.com, this eventful day is now drawing to a close. But the wedding party continues to celebrate merrily into the early hours of the morning.

Dear Franziska, dear Melvin: It has been a great pleasure for us to conduct your wedding ceremony. We wish you all the best for your future together. May the ancient gods watch over you forever!
