The Funkenburg Westgreußen is the reconstruction of a Germanic settlement from the 2nd century before time to the 1st century after time. It is situated in the middle of the beautiful Northern Thuringian countryside, where South Harz and Thuringia meet. Doreen and Wolfgang have chosen the appealing and authentic open air museum, in which the daily life of the iron age is being visualised, as the event location for their pagan marriage and wedding celebration.
By the mystical hour of sunset, the wedding party of overall 80 people gets together. Accompanied by the rustic sounds of the Irish folk band An Beal Bocht and in the light of torches and fire, the bridal couple enters the ceremony place. The evening mood and the firelight take care of a unique romantic and comfortable atmosphere.
It gets really touching and familiar, as the five children of bride and groom give their consent to the marriage of the parents by laying their hands upon and thus welcome the handfasting. In this way the whole family receives the blessing of the priests.
Our Thuringian wedding party celebrates the newly formed union and the fusion of the two clans with a festive party inside the Funkenburg. Thereby the three musicians of An Beal Bocht provide musically entertainment with their Irish folkloric sounds.
Dear Doreen and dear Wolfgang, it was a great pleasure for us to meet you, your children, friends and family. We were very fond of performing your marriage at this special place (and on this special date: Equinox) with you. We wish you all the best for your future and many pleasant hours together as a family and most of all the blessings of our ancient gods!
